Northern Taiwan Prepares For Yet Another Major Typhoon Threat

Related Krosa Post:

While here in the Atlantic Hurricane basin, we can’t even get a decent Tropical Storm to form, nor something purely tropical lately, but in the western Pacwhetheric there is a Typhoon ready to make some headlines. Typhoon Krosa is a impressive category 4 Typhoon that is now threatening the island of Taiwan. The latest forecast track and computer track models bring this dangerous cyclone very close, and/or over the northern tip of Taiwan this weekend. The capital city Taipei, Taiwan and surrounding locations, like Chi-lung, Tan-Shui, and I-Lan could see the worst of Typhoon Krosa, with deadly storm surge and major damaging winds.

In the above impressive IR satellite picture of Krosa, you can see the large well developed eye of the Typhoon, with very good outflow of the upper-level canopy. There looks to be some slight dry air being ingested on the northwest quadrant, and some outflow restricted too, but overall the Typhoon remains strong and well structured.

Typhoon and Hurricane Chasers-Trackers En-Route To Krosa

I learned today that several Hurricane and Typhoon Chasers are en-route to Taiwan for Typhoon Krosa. A few of the Chasers are from the region and a few are fellow American Storm Chasers making the long haul over to the Western Pacwhetheric. I’ll try and monitor the progress of these Hurricane Trackers over the weekend and will update here whether any news feeds in from the strike zone.

Back In The Gulf of Mexico and Western Atlantic

Back home here in the Atlantic basin, there are a few tropical invests

that continue to look very disorganized due to strong wind shear in the mid and upper-levels and dry air. Like I said several days ago in a post, the area in the Gulf of Mexico was going to have a hard time organizing due to shear and dry air. This looks to be the case and all that exists is a naked low-level swirl with isolated displaced convection. The shear wins once again!

The Bahamas / Western Atlantic invest is not doing any better, as a more hostile atmosphere as developed in the western Atlantic and shear is on the increase. This area will still need to be monitored over the weekend as it continues to slowly move west.

Note:

If you have emailed me in the last 72 hours, you might have to resend your email as I have had some server issues and down time. Some emails were lost and content from another site. I’m trying to get caught up today. Also… October 7-14, I’ll be on vacation in Sanibel Island Florida and will not be replying to emails, comments and Text Messages, unless it pertains to a developing weather situation like severe weather or a hurricane. Stock video requests will also be put on hold until Monday the 15th. Thanks!

My daily blogging will continue though during my vacation time, although from the poolside, hammock and under a palm tree.
