Terrence Cody, Rolando McClain impress at Alabama Pro Day

While Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard has had a successful career despite the illness, that news figures to send McClain’s stock downward over concerns about the long-term impact it could have.) Alabama held its Pro Day Wednesday in front of scouts from all 32 NFL teams and the numbers that mattered were postive for nose tackle Terrence Cody and linebacker Rolando McClain, both of whom are expected to get consideration by the Dolphins in next month’s NFL Draft. (AP/Tuscaloosa News) Cody, whose weight has been a serious concern since he showed up at the Senior Bowl at 370 pounds, tipped the scales at 349, meaning he’s dropped another five pounds since the NFL Scouting Combine just two weeks ago. The biggest concern about Cody’s weight is that it could prevent him from being an every-down player, which, of course, any team that would pick him

in the first round would prefer. It still seems a stretch that the Dolphins would use their No. 12 pick on Cody. But he figures to get a long look if he’s there in the second round, as Miami desperately needs to upgrade its nose tackle situation early in the draft. Many predicted McClain would run the 40-yard dash at the combine, but the linebacker opted to run today instead. He came in at 4.79 seconds. That time wouldn’t have put him among the top 10 among linebackers at the Combine — A.J. Edds of Iowa came in 10th at 4.71 — but it was slightly better than the 4.85 some had predicted the 6-3, 249-pounder would run. McClain has become a long shot to become the Dolphins’ first pick since they landed Karlos Dansby in free agency, as they play the same ILB position. Channing Crowder is expected to start at the other ILB spot, with Reggie Torbor once again the backup.
