‘Teacher tenure’ bill (SB 6) clears Florida Senate

After nearly two hours of debate, the Florida Senate has approved a bill that would overhaul the way teachers are evaluated and paid, and the terms of their contracts. The vote was 21-17 , with four Republicans — Charlie Dean, Paula Dockery, Dennis Jones and Alex Villalobos — joining Democrats in opposition. It's

not over, though. The issue next heads to the House, where the Pre-K-12 Committee takes up its version of the bill Thursday. That bill is expected to have two other committee stops before heading to the floor. Stay tuned. *
