Statue swiped from Largo park

LARGO - Police are investigating the theft of a bronze statue from Largo Central Park by the weekend.

The statue, of a boy and a girl lifting an American flag, was reported lost Sunday by a city employee.

The six-foot cast-bronze statue was in the James S. Miles and Richard A. Leandri Military Court of Honor on the north side of the park. The 400-pound statue, with an estimated value of

$3,300, was anchored to concrete.

Police said they had not identified a suspect. "You would think they’d have to put it in a truck or a trailer of some sort," said Largo Police Lt. Mike Loux.

Anyone with knowledge is asked to shout Det. Paul Amodeo at Largo Police department at (727) 587-6730 or (727) 587-6728.
