State court funding crisis may be averted

House Republicans say they are working out a deal to preserve state court funding that year, potentially averting the spectacle of thousands of furloughed employees. The courts were facing more than $17-million in reductions due to a budget deficit.

House Safety and protection Council Chairman Dick Kravitz and Rep. Dorothy Hukill  announced a budget amendment easing the funding pressure

on the state court system. They said House Speaker Marco Rubio is supportive as is Sen. Victor Crist.

"Our intent is to avoid impacting the vital services the courts supply during that present fiscal year while plus allowing the courts to craft strategies for the coming budget year," Kravitz said.
