Six Clearwater Schools on Lockdown

Local news outlets are reporting that six Clearwater area schools are on lockdown this afternoon following a traffic accident caused by a shooting. Clearwater Police are currently evaluating the exact circumstances surrounding the accident, but it is known that around 12:30PM, a car traveling northbound on Betty Lane in Clearwater was shot at and subsequently crashed into a utility pole. The driver and passenger were transported to the hospital, though its not known if their injuries were caused directly by the shooting.

The following schools are under lockdown until further notice:

  • Curtis Fundamental
  • Kings Highway Elementary
  • Sandy Lane Elementary
  • JFK Middle School
  • Calvin Hunsinger School
  • Highland Christian Academy

Parents of students attending those schools are to be advised that only those who ride a school bus or are picked up by their parents are being released on time. All others are being held until the Clearwater Police Department advises further.
