Should New Golfers Buy Expensive Gear?

Typical beginning golfers have a burning desire to put the very latest technology golf equipment manufacturers have to offer in their bags as soon as the golf bug has bitten them! For some reason,  most newer golfers think that owning a $1500.00 set of clubs will magically transform them from weekend duffers into contenders for the U.S. Open Championship!  Unfortunately, this is usually not the case at all, and in many instances, will just compound swing flaws all new golfers, and most experienced golfers, have.

Having been an avid golfer for about 15 years, experience has taught me that the best investment you can make to improve your golf swing and score, is to find an accredited teacher and take some lessons!

A new golfer can go to about any sports retailer, such as Sports Authority or Dicks Sporting Goods (no charge

for the plugs guys), and buy a complete set of clubs for 150 to 300 dollars.  While these clubs may not carry the prestige of owning some of the “top of the line” sets available, they will be more than adequate to get you familiar with the game, and to the point where you hit the ball solidly every time. Usually these sets will consist of a driver, 3 and 5 wood, 3-pitching wedge irons, and a putter and bag.  Most all of these “boxed sets” are fairly decent quality and will get you out on the range or course.

The money you save on your club purchase can be invested in lessons, and in a couple of years, both you and your golf swing will be ready to invest in some high quality, high tech, top of the line golf equipment!
