Senate gives OK to congressional maps

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Senate passed its version of a new congressional map late Tuesday afternoon by a 34-6 vote. Senate President Mike Haridopolos called it one of the Senate’s “finest hours” and hailed it as a bipartisan product given that seven Democrats voted for it. “This was dramatically different than 10 years ago,” he said. The courts will likely have the final word on whether the maps pass constitutional muster, but Haridopolos said that he hoped the bipartisan vote was an encouraging sign. Sen.
