Sen. Posey’s resignation = saving taxpayers?

Buzz caught up with Florida Sen. Bill Posey on Thursday and asked him why he was resigning his Senate seat now. Under the new and updated resign-to-run law, Posey could have held on to his state senate seat while running for Congress.

Posey said he had gotten word from the local supervisor of elections that, assuming he wins his Congressional tender, a special election later next year would cost the state about $400,000. So he decided to get out now in the name of fiscal

responsibility.

“I’m out there talking about holding government accountable,” said Posey who decided to lead by example and hold himself accountable.

The Buzz is that Thad Altman will run for Senate District 24, and Altman has received attaboys from Senate President Ken Pruitt and incoming President Jeff Atwater. Although Altman has yet to officially announce.

But Buzz also checked with Democrats who say they additionally plan to run somebody for the spot.
