Save the bunnies! We mean the real thing, not the Playboy variety

We’d never heard of Luv-A-Bun Rabbit Rescue until recently. But they sure hopped to the rescue. They saved 34 rabbits crammed into three cages, living atop dead bunnies and next to a urine-stained window in a Margate mobile home, reports sunsentinel.com. The group, based west of Lake Worth, hopes to save the hares and find them good homes. The rescued rabbits included 2- to 3-week-old, palm-sized bunnies whose eyes hadn’t even yet opened. “None of them had felt grass beneath their feet before,” said Megan Chaney, who founded Luv-A-Bun, Palm Beach County’s only rabbit rescue group, about a year ago. “They didn’t even know how to move their hind legs. They had never hopped.”

Now the rabbits have a home, sweet home, in spacious, hay-lined cages on a covered terrace. And they get time to “run” in large pens in Chaney’s backyard. The goal is to adopt them out to those who can commit to a pet with a life span of about 10 years. Two veteranarians have volunteered to spay and neuter the newcomers. Thank heavens for that.
