Rubio calls additional committee week

House Speaker Marco Rubio just announced he’s scheduling another committee week (Feb. 11) to deal with the budget.

“As Chairman Sansom has explained to us all, the budget situation is deteriorating; it is therefore critical that we start to take serious steps to reduce the recurring expenditures,” he wrote to members. “Therefore, I am allocating a full day for each council to meet to

work through their recommendations for initial budget reductions for consideration by the entire House during the first week of the Regular Session.  It is my hope that these cuts will set up a sound base from which we will need to further adjust state expenditures as we develop the 2009 fiscal budget in the General Appropriations Act.”
