Rookie safety Chris Clemons active for the first time

With the Dolphins facing the NFL’s top passing offense, rookie safety Chris Clemons will be active for the first time. Clemons, a fifth-round pick out of Clemson, ran a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine and showed a nose for the ball during training camp and the pre-season. But the team has opted to go with three safeties – starters Yeremiah Bell and Gibril Wilson, and back-up Tyrone Culver. The struggles of Wilson at free safety, including just one pass defensed this season, has led some to wonder why Clemons hasn’t been activated. It’ll be interested

to see how he plays against the NFL’s No. 1 QB and offense. Otherwise, there are no surprises among the Dolphins inactives: Tyler Thigpen as emergency QB, offensive tackle Andrew Gardner, defensive end Lionel Dotson, wide receiver Pat Turner, tight end John Nalbone, running back Kory Sheets, linebacker Quentin Moses and offensive tackle Lydon Murtha, who signed with the team Tuesday after Miami cut guard Shawn Murphy. Since Sheets is inactive and the team had used four RBs this season, the loss of Pat Cobbs to a knee injury opened up a spot for another player. For the Saints, the key inactive players linebacker Scott Fujita, who started all five games and has 22 tackles, and safety Malcolm Jenkins, the team’s first-round pick. Fujita has a calf injury and Jenkins out is out with an ankle injury.
