Residents Complain of Loud Music in Ybor

Ybor City is in the process of being rejuvenated into a young, hip environment. They boast a collection of eclectic shops, unique cuisine and many hot night clubs which are open to the wee hours of the morning. It’s one of Tampa’s best places for night life that mirrors the likeness of Coconut Grove in Miami, 6th Street in Austin and even a baby form of Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Along with the growth of shops, stores and clubs, is a variety of housing.

It seems that residents aren’t too happy with some of the happenings in Ybor City, especially at night when clubs go past the set time for the noise ordinance. (which is sometimes enforced by the city.) Some clubs are being singled out for their music by local residents, while other clubs are just doors away are left alone. Police are routinely called by local residents to ask clubs to turn down their

music, to the point where the city is asking for compensation from the clubs for the constant calls.

If these residents choose to live in one of Tampa’s biggest party destinations, why are they complaining about the noise? Shouldn’t that be a factor one would consider before purchasing or renting a home near 7th avenue? As much as I would like to live within walking distance of this type of entertainment, I would have to consider that I enjoy the peace and quiet of my townhouse at 3am. Of course the clubs that boast dance music are going to be loud, especially the ones that have a good amount of bass. Club goers don’t want to listen to the music at a respectable level; they can do that at home. They go out and pay for the experience of loud music, and a good bass line to shake that booty to.
