PIP added to special session, taxes to follow

As hinted earlier today, Gov. Charlie Crist issued a call extending the Oct. 3rd special session to include personal injury protection laws which lapsed earlier today at midnight.

Insurance committees in the Senate and House insurance are scheduled on Tuesday to work on a deal negotiated by Sen. Bill Posey and Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff.

A special session on a property tax fix will come later in the month. Crist said that the leaders of the House and Senate have agreed to address the issue, but a date has not yet been set. Crist indicated to reporters that he would like to broaden the tax cuts but did not elaborate on his plans.

Asked about the current

proposal to add a "super" homestead exemption, he replied, "It’s … it is … I think … It represented good work." The exemption plan is in limbo after a judge last week ruled the Jan. 29 ballot language misleading. The state has appealed the decision but the Legislature could also rework the ballot abstract.
