We’re on a roll with novel excuses. Yesterday we blogged about a guy who said “inner demons” made him do sexually inappropriate stuff. Today, we’ve got Edward Ates of Fort Pierce. He’s accused of killing Paul Duncsak, his son-in-law, in New Jersey. His defense: He’s too fat to commit that crime. He says he wouldn’t have had the energy to climb and descend the staircase where prosecutors say the killer was perched when he shot Duncsak, reports BuffaloNews.com Ates, 62, stands 5 feet 8 and tipped the scales at 285 pounds in 2006.
