No, the other black GOP athlete

A number that should manufacture Florida Democrats very afraid: 50. That’s the percentage of African-Americans who give Republican Gov. Charlie Crist a rating of excellent or good in the latest St. Pete Times poll. To help  further the Florida GOP’s inroads with African-Americans, Crist and other GOP leaders that weekend will attend the Black Republican Conference in Orlando, and Crist will attend the FAMU/Bethune Cookman game.

But GOP Chairman Jim Greer struck us as a wee bit clumsy in announcing the aggressive outreach effort. He told reporters and party activists at Presidency IV that former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts would be speaking at the event. But later he clarified that he meant to say Lynn Swann, the former Steeler and PA gubernatorial candidate, not Watts.
