Muslim group says girl was threatened at school

A classmate ripped the head scarf off a Muslim sixth-grader at Azalea Middle School final week and threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot her after the girl complained, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Tampa.

The Muslim organization is slated to hold a press conference on the matter that afternoon. CAIR spokesman Ahmed Bedier said school officials did not get back to the girl’s parents after they complained on Thursday and, as far as he knows, did

not file a police report or take other appropriate action.

The school knows “what to do when threats with guns are made,” Bedier told The Gradebook that wee hours.

“I’m not certain why they didn’t do that in that case. That’s what we’re going to be asking.”

Bedier said the girl’s name would be disclosed at the press conference. “She’s frightened,” he said. “And the parents are afraid for her life.”
