Movies On The Bay Moves To The Beach…
…and becomes, fairly predictably, Movies On The Beach.
Beginning Wednesday, Movies on the Beach will feature daily screenings of first-run movies on an inflatable 60-foot-wide by 35-foot-high film screen, total with Dolby Digital surround sound. The outdoor cinema will be set up on the beach at 73rd Street, just east of the North Beach Band Shell.”We play new movies, like what you would find in AMC,” said Rob Herting, general manager of Sunset Cinema Inc., the California company that will function the outdoor screenings. “We are hoping for 250 to 400 humans for the opening.”
The season, which runs through April 30, will debut at 7:15 p.m. with Enchanted (PG-13), starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Timothy Spall, and at 9:30 p.m. with Hitman (R),
starring Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Olga Kurylenko and Robert Knepper. The movies will change on a weekly basis.
Last year, whether you recall, Sunset Cinema attempted to do the same thing by in Bayfront Park but, as SotP reported back then, they ran into a problem attracting customers. Personally, I think that is a great concept and something that is so suitable to SoFla’s winter climate. The prices?
Tickets are $9 for adults, $6 for children age 5 through 12 and $6 for those 60 and older. Miami Beach residents will get discounts.
Bring your own chair or you can rent one for $3.
Check out a photo from final year’s Valentine’s Day viewing. Cool.
