Mother of former Congressman Jim Davis dies

Cody Fowler Davis, mother of former U.S. Rep. Jim Davis and 2006 Democratic gubernatorial nominee, died yesterday. She was 76.

Mrs. Davis raised three children in Tampa, including daughter Kim and son Cody, now a lawyer and author. During the campaign trail Jim Davis fondly recalled how his mother, who sold real estate, drove the boys to tennis

tournaments in their Ford Country Squire station wagon.

When his parents divorced in 1972, Jim Davis played increasingly of the role of father, along with his grandfather "Big Cody" Fowler, former president of the American Bar organization and Gov. LeRoy Collins appointee to a state committee on biracial relations.
