More than just a swearing-in in Boca Raton

There were actually some decisions made at today’s swearing in of City Council members Anthony Majhess, Constance Scott and Michael Mullaugh. First, Councilwoman Susan Haynie is now Deputy Mayor Susan Haynie. Scott, who was backed by Haynie during the election, nominated her mentor for the spot. Haynie then nominated her protégé, Scott, as chairwoman of the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency and Majhess as vice chairman. For the city’s representatives to the Metropolitan Planning Organization, Haynie nominated Majhess. Then Mullaugh nominated Haynie, who happens to be the group’s current vice chairwoman and county representative. Scott nominated Mullaugh as the city’s voting delegate for the Palm Beach County

League of Cities. Haynie then nominated Majhess as the city’s representative to the Interlocal Plan Amendment Review Committee, a group that meets quarterly. All nominations were approved by voice vote. Upon seeing that Majhess had three new roles, in additon to councilman, Mayor Susan Whelchel said, “You’re going to be a busy boy. That’s great. You know you’re going to have to report back to us.” Pictured above is Majhess taking the oath of office from the Rev. Ricki Gardner of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
