Missing Tampa man kills self, girlfriend missing

GAINESVILLE — Police have confirmed a lost Tampa man killed himself in a Gainesville hotel room Sunday night after officers knocked on the door.

Gainsville police say Trevor McGinty, 30, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Holiday Day on West University Avenue about 11 p.m. Sunday. His girlfriend, Wendy Dusza, 34, remains lost.

The couple, both self employed in the mortgage trade who lived at 4333 Bayside Village Drive Apt. 208 in Tampa, disappeared about a week ago. After family members reported the couple lost, police found a hungry dog and cat in

their apartment.

On Sunday, police went to the sixth floor Gainesville hotel room about 8:15 p.m. after McGinty’s  2006 Jeep Wrangler was spotted there. Police calls to the room went unanswered. When SWAT team members knocked on the door, they heard one gunshot, police said.

McGinty died at the scene with one gunshot wound to his head.

Gainesville police said the Jeep was seen at a murder scene in Tampa. When and where the murder occurred is unclear.
