Man finds out the hard way that "criminal mischief" is a crime

Some people have to learn things the hard way. This homeowner is a classic example. The 59-year-old man was not satisfied with the job bricklayers were doing on his Fort Walton Beach home. He used one of the worker’s phones to speak to the man’s supervisor, then threw the phone into his pond and kicked all of the workers off of his property, reports the Northwest Florida Daily News . When one of the men tried to get the phone from the pond, the homeowner yelled at him to get off his property or he would get a gun, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report. The men called authorities. A deputy told the homeowner he would charge him with

criminal mischief if he prevented the phone from being retrieved. “Do what you gotta do,” the man told him. Twice the homeowner refused to give the deputy his identification. He then tried to enter his home, but because of the gun threats he made to the workers, the deputy ordered the man to stay outside. He turned around and said another deputy had told him there was no such thing as criminal mischief. He soon found out otherwise as charges hit him like a ton of bricks. The homeowner was charged with assault, resisting arrest and — criminal mischief. More FloriDUH
