Linebacker Karlos Dansby has first visit planned to Miami Dolphins

It didn’t take long for the Dolphins to make some headlines as free agency opened at midnight. Speaking on NFL Live, Arizona Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby – considered the team’s No. 1 target – said he plans to visit South Florida on Friday to meet the Dolphins. Dansby reportedly seeks $30 million in guaranteed money, but Bill Parcells has had his eye on Dansby for some time. During last year’s Super Bowl in Tampa, Dansby recalled when Parcells was the coach of the Cowboys and told Dansby he wanted to get him on his team one day. Well, here’s Parcells’ chance to lock up Dansby before he gets on an airplane and heads off to meet with another team. If the Dolphins don’t sign Dansby, he could end up with the Redskins or the Giants. “Right now I’m just poised and ready to go,” said Dansby, who also acknowledged he and his advisers “have some other things lined up.” The Washington Post reports Dansby is No. 2 on the team’s wish list behind Pro Bowl DE Julius Peppers. to lose.” If the Dolphins don’t give Dansby his asking price, expect Redskins big-spending owner Dan Snyder to make a better offer. Two years ago, the Miami Dolphins entered free agency with their eye on Arizona linebacker Calvin Pace. But the pursuit of Pace didn’t pan out because the Jets came in and offered him more money – a six-year, $42 million deal with $22 million guaranteed. Wherever he ends up, Dansby, 28, has high hopes, telling ESPN his goal is “to be legendary.” Dansby, 28, hasn’t made the Pro Bowl in his six seasons, but he’s the best free-agent linebacker out there and has played in the 3-4 scheme with the Cardinals. Dansby has more than 100 tackles each of the past two seasons, but also has 25.5 sacks, 25 passes defensed, 10 interceptions and can line up in different places on the field. Meanwhile, Dolphins’ GM Jeff Ireland recently criticized the play of the team’s inside linebackers. Starters Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele combined for 121 tackles, one sack, one interception and had no forced fumbles in 2009.
