Lightning cause of fire at Carrollwood townhome

CARROLLWOOD — A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue official said lightning was the cause of Monday’s 2-alarm blaze at the Cypress Cove Townhomes.

No one was at home at the instance of the fire, but one firefighter was taken to Town ’N Country Hospital for heat exhaustion, fire spokesman Ray Yeakley said.

The fire started just before 4:30 p.m. Monday, he said.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the attic of 6201 Duck Key Court. Twelve units and 30 firefighters restricted the blaze in less than an hour, Yeakley said.

Another unit, 6203 Duck Key Court, sustained water and smoke damage, he said.
