CNN star Larry King is back in South Florida this weekend for a charity gala, and Sunday’s Miami Dolphins game. Through the 1960s and the early ’70s , the 76-year-old King made a name for himself on Miami radio, as a d.j., commentator and an announcer on Dolphins broadcasts. The King’s first stop, Friday, was at Mar-a-Lago for the de facto kickoff of Palm Beach’s gala season, Lois Pope ’s Lady in Red Gala. The 16th annual fund-raiser brought more than 500 people to Donald Trump ’s club, with proceeds going to building a memorial in Washington, D.C., honoring disabled war veterans. “I emceed the ground breaking of the

Vietnam memorial in D.C.,” King told Page2Live . “There should be one for disabled veterans, too. That’s why I came.” Earlier this fall, Pope found a way to guarantee that the gala would be a sell out in a tough economy. She offered to Palm Beachers the opportunity to celebrate their own occasion at her fiesta. So, Manalapan widow Terry Ebert celebrated her wedding to Joe Mendozza while Jersey couple Elissa and Dominic Papparone celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
