LA superintendent seeks to weed out weak teachers

As school districts in Florida and across the country seek to improve teacher training and performance, many are coming to the conclusion that some teachers just can't be saved. The latest on this front comes from California, where Los Angeles superintendent Ramon Cortines has ordered his administrators to find and fire ineffective new teachers before they become permanent , the LA Times reports. "This district can be rightly

criticized for the promotion of ineffective teachers over the years. That is about to change," Cortines told the LA Times . "We do not owe poor performers a job." The LA Times is about to come out with a report dinging the district for its failure to rely upon teacher evaluations before granting tenure.
