Iran asks Coral Springs family about missing man Bob Levinson

Former FBI agent Bob Levinson of Coral Springs disappeared while working in Iran a thousand days ago, but a new development has renewed his family’s hopes of finding him and bringing him home. Christine Levinson, who has tapped the highest levels of the U.S. government to help find her husband, was heartened when Iranian officials asked her a series of questions about his trip to Iran. Bob Levinson with family “I am hopeful that because they are asking the same questions again that they asked in the beginning that they have new information that would help me find my husband and bring him home,” she told reporters in Washington on Thursday while meeting with Florida Senator Bill Nelson. She said the Iranians wanted to know: “What was Bob doing over there? Did he have a satellite phone? Who paid for his trip…?” She said she told them: “He was investigating cigarette smuggling for clients. No one is responsible for him but himself. He pays his own bills.” Iran consistently has denied knowing the whereabouts of Levinson, who set up a security firm in Broward County after leaving the FBI. He disappeared in 2007 while on a business trip to the

island of Kish off the coast of Iran. His wife came to Washington to renew her appeal for help on the 1,000th day of his disappearance. She plans to meet with officials from the FBI and the State Department for a progress report on their investigation of the missing American. Her rounds include a visit to the White House, where she plans to meet with National Security Adviser Jim Jones. Nelson said he is pressing the Iranian ambassador to the UN for information. He cited an Iranian TV report a month after Levinson’s disappearance that indicated he was being held and would be released. “We believe that he is being held by the Iranian government. Which part of the Iranian government we don’t know,” Nelson said. “But we think that he is alive and he is held by his captors, for what reason we don’t know.” “We do think it is a positive sign that they have formally brought forth these questions. Beyond that, I can tell you that the highest levels of the United States government are constantly pursuing this case.”
