Hillsborough School Board member Jennifer Faliero is mad as heck, and she's not going to take it anymore. Last year, Faliero sat quietly as Senate Education Appropriations chairman Steve Wise pushed through school board pay cuts. "We were advised not to raise a big stink when it came up," she recalled. The thought was the issue would go away. It didn't, and now it's come back up again. Unhappy with the results of encouraging boards to cut their salaries to that of a first-year teacher, Wise now wants to slash board pay to the rate of a Florida lawmaker. (He's not alone, of course. There is a

fairly large group of lawmakers that will argue that the position of school board member should be voluntary.) Faliero, who lives off her board salary of $37,014, told the Gradebook she can't afford a nearly $8,000 reduction and she shouldn't have to. She's pledged to fight Wise's proposal, even if it costs her reelection. See the full story here . Poll: School Board pay Should Florida's school board members take a pay cut? Yes, give them what lawmakers make Yes, they should be unpaid volunteers No, they work hard
