Groundhog Day: PETA wants Punxsutawney Phil replaced with robot

Tomorrow Punxsutawney Phil will make his weather prediction from Gobbler’s Knob, in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds, to determine if we’ll have six more weeks of winter. Groundhog’s Day is not as celebrated in Florida as it is in Pennsylvania. Afte rall, except for an occasional cold snap, we have summer all year round. But Floridians will celebrate just about anything as long as it involves a beer. So if you happen to be celebrating Groundhog’s Day tomorrow the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA wants you to stop for a moment and think about the plight of Top Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. PETA wants to give Phil a real Spring break this year and retire him to a

sanctuary. What??? No Phil!! PETA wants him replaced with an electronic groundhog — a robotic Phil. PETA says that Phil is forced to be on display year round at the local library and is denied the ability to prepare for and enter yearly hibernation. Add to that the displeasure of large, screaming crowds, flashing lights of cameras, and human handling. If Punxsutawney frees Phil, then the bitter winter that’s made him into an unwilling media attraction will end, making way for a sunny spring that everyone can enjoy, reports PETA .
