FSU trustees just approved a three-year plan to shave $56 million from the university's budget. The plan is in response to a $47.5 million cut in state funding that lawmakers approved this spring, after other recent cuts totaling $82 million. "We think it's the best we can do with the cards we've been dealt," FSU president T.K. Wetherell said. "It will allow us over the next few years to get to where we

need to be." Wetherell is making the most of $46 million in federal stimulus dollars, using the money to extend for as long as possible benefits such as health care for nearly 200 employees who will lost their jobs under the budget cutting plan. "We are trying to be as fair and humanistic as possible," Wetherell said. *
