(Update: Turns out it was about the money for Ryan Clark , too.) The Dolphins have had a shot at two free safeties and came up empty. Both Antrel Rolle and Ryan Clark say the money wasn’t right. Speaking to The Joe Rose Show on WQAM , Rolle said the Dolphins’ offer wasn’t up to snuff. “The budget that they were willing to spend on a saftey was a little bit lower than what I was looking for,” Rolle, a South Florida native and former UM star, told Rose. “Miami would have been nice just for the fact that it’s home. But I don’t think anyone would sell themselves short just to stay in their hometown, especially when you have someone like the Giants making such a great offer and giving me such a great opportunity.” The Giants offered Rolle a king’s ransom, $37 million over five seasons, including $15 million guaranteed. Rolle is now the highest-paid safety in the NFL, a crown he could find a bit heavy in New York unless he plays beyond the level he’s shown during most of his five NFL seasons.
