Having a friend or family member (or perhaps yourself) head off to jail can be an intimidating experience. Polk County Jail has a particularly bad reputation for being overcrowded and uncomfortable, however, being armed with up-to-date information about the jails can help potential inmates or families prepare for and cope with time spent locked up.
Former Polk County Jail inmates share their jail stories in an attempt to help others understand what jail life is really like. They share advice on how to get along with other inmates, how to find a good bunk/cell, and how to survive the jail food.
While the Annex section of the Polk County Jail (located a few miles down the street from the Courthouse and Booking Station) may deserve its reputation for being overcrowded and uncomfortable, it is only a preliminary and temporary holding location for inmates before they are transferred to the newer and much nicer facility in Frostproof, Florida. According
While one of the main complaints about life in jail is the quality of the food, “Timmy” states, “You can purchase food snacks from the canteen weekly. There is just a ton of junk food available through the commissary. $30 a week you can live like a king and share with your cell mates.” Be sure to have friends or family members put money in your account, however, because former inmate “Michael” mentions, “They have a canteen but I had no money to get anything.”

According to “Timmy,” life in jail really isn’t as bad as it might seem to be. “Don’t believe the stuff you see on television. That is not true. Your family member will be fine.” He ends with some good advice, “Trouble finds those who look for it.”
jail is as bad as they say, some people are not fortunate enough to have an opportunity to “find trouble” some had trouble find them from childhood.Example being molested from 6yrs to 14yrs forced to do drugs at 10 -14yrs of age ,and a failed court system finding this monster not guilty in one county and ex-spunged in another. This tends to lead people down the wrong path,my friend going threw all this and also having to realize the same monster (not guilty)will eventually even get to (In all probability) get to take her life. You see she has lived with H.p.v all her life and always had abnormal cells high levels C.I.N level 3 even after surgeries Now needs another cant afford hysterectomy or afford a doctor. So the cells can continue on growing. hey “Talk about victims rights HUH?)the point being jail is bad for some but I still say families of inmates should be able to purchase the bare necessities like stamps ,paper, envelopes deodorant hygiene products Things HUMAN BEINGS NEED TO BE HUMAN! I understand if you owe money not being able to purchase the food products, but come on,Really does the money mean so much we treat humans to cruelties of deprivation, if you have ever been to polk county jail if you are indigent you might and I use the word might get the 2 stamps 2 sheets of paper and 2 envelopes, but you wont get anymore deodorant shampoo or any personal necessities (I lied you will get toothpaste and limited toilet paper )come on people lets change this yes jail sucks, but allow the inmates families send money to indigent account
