Florida gets more cash from the feds

By at 12 March, 2010, 4:30 pm

The Obama Administration has released another $728.9 million in federal stimulus funds for Florida. The amount comes on top of $3.7 billion the state has already received for education programs. One chunk comes from the education stabilization fund, which was new this year and will run out after next year. The rest flowed from programs the federal government has covered for years, such as Title I and IDEA. It's just that the Obama Administration makes a bigger deal about it and sends

press releases with dollar figures, while past administrations just handed out the money. Guess that's transparency. On Tuesday, state officials led by Gov. Crist head to D.C. to make their pitch for a slice of the $4.35 billion Race to the Top fund — a sliver of the total education budget that has garnered perhaps more than its fair share of attention. Expect more press releases to follow.
