Faliero gains new opponent in Hillsborough school board race

TAMPA — In another sign of a tough election season brewing, Jennifer Faliero now finds herself with two opponents in the District 4 race for the Hillsborough County School Board. Former Freedom High principal Richard Bartels has filed papers to join pharmacist Stacy White in vying for the seat, which represents eastern Hillsborough. Faliero isn't the only incumbent with a battle on her hands. Her District 6 colleague, April Griffin,

faces four challengers for that county-wide seat, while veteran Candy Olson faces a single opponent in District 2. It's a lot of action, considering the voting won't start until the Aug. 24 primary and Nov. 4 general election.  What's driving all this early campaigning?
