Fake bomb at theater was a UCF class project

A fake bomb forced the evacuation of an Ocala theater on Saturday and kept hundreds of moviegoers from their cars. Marion County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Gold said “It looked real, with five sticks of dynamite, wires come out of it with a timer.” Police said the realistic-looking device was the handiwork of Matthew Pye, 19, a University of Central Florida student. The “bomb” that was left sitting on the front seat of a pickup in the theater parking lot was his theater class project, reports the Ocala Star

Banner . Pye is majoring in stage design at UCF and got an A on the bomb project. And he was so proud of his work that he brought it to Ocala to show his friend. But he didn’t fare as well with the police: Pye will be charged with manufacture, possession and display of a hoax weapon of mass destruction. Photo: Ocala Star Banner / Matthew Pye More FloriDUH
