Dolphins starters Channing Crowder and Jason Ferguson doubtful for Patriots’ game

The Dolphins could face the hottest offense in football without two veteran starters. Linebacker Channing Crowder (shoulder) and Jason Ferguson (elbow) are listed as doubtful, or as having a 25-percent chance of playing, when Miami visits Tom Brady and the New England Patriots Sunday. The Patriots have scored 94 points in the past two games led by Brady’s nine-TD passes. Crowder entered last weekend as doubtful, but was downgraded as “out” for the Jets game. Back-up Reggie Torbor stepped in and made seven tackles, including four solo stops. But that doesn’t mean coach Tony Sparano is resting easy with Crowder on the sideline. Crowder is off to a slow start, with 22 tackles, compared with 48 during his six games in 2008. But Sparano sees big things for the 25-year-old Crowder, who has the

size (6-2, 250), athletic ability and youth to develop into a big-time player. “I think is a guy, this is just my opinion and I am entitled to my opinion, but I think that this guy is quite possibly a Pro Bowl type of a player,” Sparano said. “Not there yet, hasn’t done it yet, but I think can eventually be there.” The timing couldn’t be better for the emergence of back-up NT Paul Soliai, who had a career game against the Jets, finishing with six tackles, a forced fumble and a batted down pass. But Soliai is the only nose tackle on the roster besides Ferguson and might not be ready to assume the role of lead dog.
