Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter finally discusses his 0-fer at New England

A bad game, even an embarrassing one, isn’t going to change Dolphins’ loose-lipped linebacker Joey Porter. “Never, never,” he said. “I’m going to be me. That’s the good thing you have to like about me. Win, lose or draw I’m going to tell it like it.” It just took awhile this time. Porter clearly has been smarting since Sunday’s zero-tackle, zero-tackle performance in a loss at New England. Porter avoided South Florida media all week and waited until his weekly appearance Thursday on the NFL Network to discussed his no-show against New England. “Even me I know after you loss a game and you don’t perform at some point in time you have to take a step back,” he said. Porter’s O-fer came after he’d made several negative comments last week about the Patriots. Leading up to a 27-17 loss, Porter called the three-time Super Bowl winners cheaters; said he had had “natural hate” for them going back to his days in Pittsburgh; and said NFL officials protected quarterback Tom Brady, whose season-ending knee injury in 2008 led the league to amend the rule about hitting quarterbacks below the knees. The Patriots made

sure they had the last word on Sunday. During the final moments of the game, videoboard operators panned in on Porter and flashed the caption, “No tackles.” Porter said he found it amusing, adding, “We still have to see them one more time,” when the Patriots Dec. 6 visit to South Florida. “It was all in fun and games,” he said. “They didn’t put the stats up there the last time I was there. They had the upper hand. They did a good job with that. “I’m not mad at them.” The last time Porter visited New England he had four sacks during the Dolphins’ 38-13 upset in Week 3 of the 2008 season. But Porter has been nursing injuries this season and hasn’t been the dominant pass rusher who came up one sack shy of the team record and made the Pro Bowl for the fourth time after posting a career-high 17 1/2 sacks. Porter has 2 1/2 sacks this season and has missed the past two days of practice with a knee injury.
