Democrat says Jennifer Carroll pick could help Republicans with black voters

Clarence Anthony – former mayor of South Bay in Palm Beach County, former president of the National League of Cities, and former member of the Democratic National Committee – said Democrats will need to explain Republican lieutenant governor candidate Jennifer Carroll’s policy views. “I do think that Jennifer Carroll will help bring out additional black votes. Having the opportunity to elect a lieutenant governor who is black will excite the black voters, and I hope what we will be able to do is educate the black voters about the different philosophies of the party and when they go in make the right decision based upon who they agree with. “But I’m not going to

downplay or criticize Scott for selecting an African-American woman. I think that’s a great move. And I applaud that. “I do think that shows the importance of the African-American vote by both the Democrats and the Republicans. Will it make that much difference? Will it dilute Alex [Sink]’s chances? I hope we’re able to educate the black voters about the position and philosophies of the two campaigns and they will continue to support the Democratic candidate.” Views of other South Florida political leaders in the African-American community, including U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, who represents part of Palm Beach County.
