In the latest round of political musical chairs, Delray Beach City Commissioner Mackenson “Mack” Bernard announced Friday he will be running for District 84, the seat state Rep. Priscilla Taylor, D-West Palm Beach, is leaving to run for Addie Greene’s former seat on in the Palm Beach County Commission. Greene resigned in April, citing health issues. Bernard, who was appointed to the City Commission when Brenda Montague resigned to move to California, was reelected in March when his opponent failed to submit the required signatures to qualify as a candidate. Bernard plans to finish his

term, which ends in March 2010. He said the experience as a City Commissioner has prepared him to deal with complex issues such as affordable housing. “The motivation is also dealing with the budget issues that are going on in Tallahassee,” Bernard said. “It’s time bring a different experience to deal with the budget and decide what our priorities are. I believe I’m the best person that will be able to lead because of my diverse background.”
