Day 2 afternoon: Ronnie Brown goes deep

A fingertip catch by Ronnie Brown at the goal line of a 50-yard bomb by Chad Henne highlighted the next-to-last workout of the Dolphins’ three-day minicamp Saturday afternoon. The session was once again held inside the practice bubble after the team worked in temperatures approaching 90 degrees in the morning. Some 200-300 fans ranging from marketing partners to suiteholders were allowed to watch the 90-minute workout. Henne once again took most of the reps as first-team quarterback with Chad Pennington excused for the day to attend his sister’s wedding. Brown got behind cornerback Eric Green and safety Gibril Wilson on his long play. Both players have been victimized more than once on deep passes and it says something about Brown’s speed that he was able to get behind them. Pat White continued to struggle with his accuracy, though he did hook up with fellow rookie Patrick Turner for some nice completions. Other highlights of the session, which also featured work on kickoff coverage and returns: – Cornerback Joey Thomas jumped

a route to intercept a pass over the middle from Henne to rookie Brian Hartline, drawing some whoops from the DB corps. – S Yeremiah Bell couldn’t help himself and stepped up to give Ernest Wilford a shoulder after a short reception, knocking Wilford to the ground. – Greg Camarillo once again looked quick as he cut to the sideline after catching a short out. When rookie Sean Smith was asked after the morning session how Camarillo has looked in the workouts, he said with a smile, “We’ve only gone against each other a couple times, but he’s shown me I’m the rookie and he’s the veteran.” – Davone Bess, Chris Williams and Brennan Marion were practicing returning kickoffs. Miami was among the worst in the league at both kick returns and kick coverage last season, and coach Tony Sparano said earlier in the day he’s on the lookout for guys who can help improve the special teams.
