Crist on a Friday: schedule all clear

Gov. Charlie Crist’s Friday schedule just came out. And – surprise, surprise – the governor isn’t in Tallahassee and his day looks as sparse as usual. Here’s what is listed: 11:30am MEETING WITH PAT GLEASON (via phone) 11:45am MEETING WITH SHANE STRUM (via phone) Crist’s plans for Friday: a lunchtime fundraiser for his 2010 U.S. Senate campaign in Washington, D.C. – with recommended donations ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 a head. Just for kicks, we figured we’d go back and see the last time Crist had a scheduled Friday event in Tallahassee, which is, after all, where the government is located. We had to go back to Aug. 7, when he had a 10 a.m. meeting with Michael Yaworsky, who directs the governor’s appointments office. Even that stay in Tallahassee didn’t last long: Crist was in

his hometown, St. Petesburg, by 3:20 p.m. that day, where he had allotted the vaguely defined “work and call time” for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Most Fridays, Crist schedules events in South Florida – where his wife, Carole, has a place – or in St. Pete. Some days he has scheduled events or press conferences on a Friday (on Nov. 6, he had three morning events in Tampa, with his day ending around lunchtime) although just as often, his Friday schedules are blank except for a few phone calls. (Of course, the governor’s schedule has been raked over numerous times in the press. And as the governor points out, he has his cell phone 24/7, and that means he’s never truly off.)
