Court Adjourned!
The glimmering hype that is the old County Courthouse beckons me for a visit. For an area that calls a building that was built just 15 years ago “old,” I had to see that historical landmark.
As you approach the courthouse you get a sense of the grandeur of the day, the Greco roman columns stand out glimmering in the hot Florida sun, windows shining and a front façade that looks immaculate as though it was a type new building.
Inside however is a different story. Yes, the building is well kept on the inside, but far from its historical roots, the building has now become a Disney land for the city of West Palm Beach. Its gift shop sports posters that cost $50.00 and I realize we are in an inflationary moment, but that is just obscene.
The historical exhibits which
Even the stairs which have the real banisters are made to look absurd with the newer and far stupider looking banners attached inappropriately.
The one saving grace is the courtroom is largely intact. Once seated you can suppose that you are in any southern courtroom; perhaps the one where the scopes trial took place.
If you have a half-hour or so, stop by the refurbished and restored old courthouse.
