Cops: Carjackers forced man to strip

A man and a woman face multiple charges, including armed carjacking, following a high-speed chase through the streets of Daytona Beach early Tuesday. Darshawn A. Broadwater and Jerrica Nicole Myles, both 19, are accused of armed carjacking, armed robbery and resisting arrest without violence, reports the Orlando Sentinel. Broadwater also faces charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding and knowingly driving with a suspended license. Johnny Watson told police he had just pulled into the driveway of a Daytona Beach home shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when two people approached and one pointed a gun at his head. He was ordered to remove his pants, shoes and wallet, Daytona Beach Police Officer Nicholas Gurucharri said in an arrest affidavit. The pair then jumped into Watson’s 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and fled the crime scene, leaving Watson standing in the driveway in his underwear. Less than three minutes later, Gurucharri spotted the car southbound on Keech Street. Gurucharri said in the report that he chased the car at speeds nearing 80 mph and at

one point it crossed the center median and traveled north in the southbound lanes. The man and woman finally bailed out of the car. Gurucharri said in the report that he chased the driver, later identified as Broadwater, as he jumped several fences before finally being apprehended with the help of a police dog. Other officers then captured Myles. Watson told police he was robbed of about $800, mostly in $50 bills. Police recovered $420 from Broadwater and more than $350 from Myles, the majority of which was $50 bills, according to the arrest affidavits. A gun was found in some bushes and a grip that appeared to be missing from the gun was found in Watson’s car, police said. Both are being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail, with bail set at $46,000 for Broadwater and $40,500 for Myles.
