Cancer patients dream come true
A bay area teen who is fighting cancer was granted his one and only wish today, a swimming pool. Looking at Nate Pietrangelo you’d never imagine this 15-year-old is fighting for his life. Even at such a young age, Nate has been in and out of hospitals. As a baby, he was diagnosed with elliptocytosis. An abnormality of red blood cells forcing him to undergo dozens of transfusions. Then at 7, he was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. An abnormal hardening of the bones. Now this summer, doctors discovered a cancerous tumor in his kidney. “It’s been pretty hard. I’ve had like pretty bad days. Some days are better than others,” says Nate. “I think a couple of times he told me I want it to stop. I want to die. I was like don’t say that you’re going to be better. In the midst of that I think he really felt like that,” said Kari Pietrangelo, Nate’s mother. Nate has gone through 10 weeks of chemotherapy.
