BOG seeking 21 new trustees for universities

Want to help shape one of Florida's 11 state universities? The Board of Governors that oversees the 11 is seeking new trustees for each of the institutions, at a time when those institutions need much guidance to deal with things like budget cuts and research ambitions. The BOG will make the 21 appointments by January 6, 2010.   “These appointments are vital to the future of the State University System,” said Sheila M. McDevitt, chair of the Board of Governors. “We are looking for individuals who can lead our institutions with skill and good judgment, who can provide a vision of quality and

success and who can ensure our universities are accountable for the resources provided by the citizens of this state.”   Each universities' board of trustees is responsible for setting policy, establishing and maintaining academic programs, and developing the institution's budget. Among the universities seeking trustees is FSU, whose board will help choose a new president to replace the retiring T.K. Wetherell.  And if Frank Brogan is named chancellor, Florida Atlantic University trustees also will have to find a new president.   The application is on the Board of Governors Web site at http://www.flbog.edu/aboutsus/ubt.php .
