Bengals take WR Antonio Bryant off the market

Antonio Bryant apparently will not be coming to the Dolphins. Quoting a website called JOCKsite.com, Pro Football Talk today reported that the wide receiver has signed a four-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Terms were not disclosed. Bryant, 28, who was born and raised in Miami and attended Northwestern High School, has been the subject of much speculation regarding the Dolphins’ need for a No. 1 wide receiver. Bryant previously played for Bill Parcells in Dallas. The two reportedly had a heated exchange at one point on the field but are said to have worked things out. Bryant, who also played for Cleveland, San Francisco and Tampa Bay, also had a stormy relationship in SF with Mike Nolan, now Miami’s defensive coordinator. Bryant

had a career-high 83 receptions for 1,248 yards and seven touchdowns with Tampa Bay in 2008. Last year his production dropped – in part due to injuries – to 39 catches for 600 yards and 2 TDs. Despite the speculation, Bryant had not scheduled any visits to Miami. His signing likely precludes the possibility that Terrell Owens will wind up with the Bengals as rumored. With Antonio Bryant out of the picture and linebacker Karlos Dansby in the fold, the Dolphins could be turning their attention in next month’s draft away from linebacker and toward wide receiver, where Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant is considered the top prospect.
