Arrest made in beating, choking death of 69-year-old Brooksville man

BROOKSVILLE — A 23-year-old Spring Hill woman has been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s beating and choking death of a man 46 years her senior, police said.

Treva Lynn Anderson, 3582 Dow Lane, was booked into the Hernando County Jail Thursday and held without bail, Brooksville police said. Her charges were not immediately available.

Police said their exploration, witness statements and autopsy results linked Anderson to the death of 69-year-old Robert Eane Rutherford. Police said Rutherford, known to friends as "Bunk," was

hit several times on the head with an unidentified weapon and strangled in his apartment at 770 S. Main St.

"He was just a good old boy from Tennessee," neighbor Tina
Kimball told the St. Peersburg Times on Thurdsay. "Strangers weren’t strangers to him, just friends who he
hadn’t met yet."

Rutherford’s death marks the city’s moment murder in nearly six years. Police have not disclosed a motive.
