Anger, support after vandals hit home

Just days after her Wesley Chapel house was destroyed by vandals, Arlene Agosto is dealing with the cleanup. “It’s kind of mixed emotions,” the Army reservist explained by phone. “I want to be home to take care of the house. But I want to be here, to take care of my soldiers.” Agosto is back in Virginia for work. She’s a nurse and cares for wounded soldiers. Meanwhile, crews are busy trying to salvage anything they can. Workers with Graystone Construction are making an inventory of the items that can be cleaned up. But it’s only a few dozen boxes. Everything else will thrown away, a total loss. Agosto came home last week to find the destruction. A friend had been watching her house and found the mess. Pink paint was thrown on walls, carpet, furniture, TV’s, and stereo equipment. Someone poured cooking oil into the stove and threw peanut butter on the walls. Detectives say the vandals also threw human feces on the beds and urinated

on the floors. They do have some leads and hope it’ll lead to an arrest. Crews said it’ll take at least six weeks to fix the mess. “We tear out everything that is not going to be cleaned or restored. Which will be the carpet, wood floors, a lot of the baseboards, some of the cabinets, the kitchen cabinets that have been wrecked, ” Harrell explained to FOX 13. Agosto has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from the Bay Area. She’s had strangers come by to help clean. She even had a 4-year-old girl with her mother show up, with homemade brownies. Arlene’s own children are dealing with the fact that someone targeted them. Her 3-year-old daughter can’t understand why anyone would want to destroy their house, and her 13-year-old daughter is angry. “She feels hurt about it, she feels hurt. But she knows we’ll survive this. We’ll be OK.”
