Amendment 5 is no Amendment 1 for Crist

Gov. Charlie Crist couldn’t compliment the Amendment 1 property tax cuts decent, and his statewide campaigning (aka the "drop like a rock" tour) surely helped get the plan passed in January. But he sounds less than jazzed about the Amendment 5 proposal, commonly known as the "tax swap."

"I love the part that’s a 25 percent reduction in property taxes," Crist told reporters today. But will you campaign for it? "I haven’t decided yet. I

really don’t know. moment will tell."

Another reporter asked how he would vote whether the election were tomorrow. "Well, it’s not tomorrow, so I don’t have to produce that decision," Crist said. He quickly followed up, "I support it, I support it."

The questions came in the context of final week’s formation of a large and diverse coalition against the plan. Background here.
