16 year olds getting tattoos ?

Underage tattooing is on the raise, teenagers under the legal age of 18 are coming home with a tattoo. If you are a minor and get a tattoo you have broken the law as well as the tattoo artist who tattooed you. No reputable tattoo artist should knowingly tattoo a minor and if they have they should be ashamed of themselves.
Why am I telling you this, because my 16 year old daughter told me her BFF got a tattoo. When I asked her how that was possible, she said fake ID…wow, I’ve heard of fake id’s for drinking but getting tattoos? Tattoo studios should be more careful and really, really check out the id’s more
This studio is in West Palm Beach and I’m thinking of turning them in…
The moral of this story is teenagers under the age of 18 are not mature enough to make a life altering decision of getting a tattoo. Some parents urge lawmakers to change the tattooing age to 20 or 21 because they still feel 18 is too young to make this decision. If you are underage and are contemplating getting a tattoo illegally, keep in mind a good tattoo studio cards their customers and will make a photocopy of their ID just to cover their butts in case there are any disputes.
That tattoo place should be put out of business…and the person who tattooed that teenager should be arrested !!!
At age 16 in today’s world if all the kids brings home is a tattoo the parent should feel lucky. Especially with everything they are exposed to.
You really feel that way Carla, a tattoo is a lifetime choice..no take backs…aw may be I guess, laser removal
I was 16 when I got mu first tattoo. I have an A on my foot. My best friend has an S on her foot. they are the first letters of our names. I thought I could hide it from my parents thats why I got it on my foot. But of course I had to open my mouth and my parents ended up finding out. They freaked! And lost all trust in me. I had been asking if I could get a tattoo since I was like 13 and they told me NO a million times. But I had luck on my side. I looked 19 when I was 16 so I never got ID for anything. I love my tattoo very much. In this day and age parents your lucky if all your kids do is get a tattoo. If my daughter asked me to let her get a tattoo when she is 16 I’ll say only under one condition. you have to pick your tattoo out. I have to appove and you have to think about it for a full year! looking at that picture everyday. And in that year if she still wanted it. and I approve. Well then why not. I would rather my kids feel comfortable enough to come and talk to me then be there worst nightmare and have them sneaking around behind my back.
dude, you have no clue what your talking about. im 16 and my mom is taking me to get a tattoo this weekend in jacksonville. ive kept the picture i drew in my wallet since december 2008. if you think im not mature enough to get a tattoo on my upper leg where it wouldnt be visable, then you dont know me. its a rebel flag with a skeleton confederate soldier in the uncle sam pose. on top it will say dirty and below it will say south. its a dedication to my southern herritage. ive wanted to get this done for so long and im old enough to make my own decission. so bite me(:
If this is all you have to worry about in your life then you must be really shut off from the world. Forget drug dealers and murderers, let’s arrest a tattoo artist! Because that’s more important.
The girl had a fake I.D. Do you want him to examine the thing for five minutes? If everywhere did that, you would be that impatient person in line at a Wawa (north east coast equivalent to a quickstop) complaining that a person was taking forever to validate an I.D. It’s impractical. Maybe the girl’s parents should have been more responsible. If you’re that worried about her influencing your child then maybe you should have a talk with your daughter about it.
Personally, I think there are more horrid crimes happening in the world aside from a tattoo artist tattooing an underage girl. I’d rather worry about those.
I understand your concern, but really I think you are over reacting. First off, it is NOT your child, so its not YOUR responsibillity to turn in the tattoo artist. If you were her mother fine, but your not so let your daughter friends’ mother deal with it. It seems like you got some issues behind this whole scene.
second, I agree with almost everyone who has written here. There are worse things in this world. Murders, rapist etc etc. You would be lucky if she only got a tattoo.
third, if you want to sound all smart and be intimidating about knowing the law… then KNOW the law.
It is not illegal to get a tattoo underage IF you have parent consent. i know your daughters friend got it illegaly but, “f you are a minor and get a tattoo you have broken the law as well as the tattoo artist who tattooed you. “.. is incorrect. It is not illegal if you have parent consenst and In some states the age is lower then 18.
Yeah your daughters friend might regret it when she is older, but everyone has something they regret that is perminant. So you might aswell let it pass. I got have a few tattoos and am getting one today, and I do not/will not regret any of them. Tattooing is a art form. Its like having a masterpiece with you 24/7.

I’m 17 right now, and wanting a tattoo. However, I’m going to wait until I’m legal. lol.
I agree that 16 is a bit young tobe making life long decisions. If you can’t wait 2 more years for something that you say you really want, then you don’t really want it.
On the other hand, I don’t think that people should have to wait until they’re 21. o.O I mean.. How fair is it that you can JOIN THE ARMY, pay your own bills, have your own house, and have consensual sex at 18.. but you wouldn’t be able to alter your own body the way you want? lol.
18 is the legal age where you become your own person, and I think the reason adults want to raise the age to 21 is because they’re afraid that if the tattoo is a mistake, it will feel like their fault.
The problem is, if we don’t make out own mistakes, we won’t learn anything. And most tattoos turn out ok, as long as you put some thought behind them.
your all stupid if you want a tattoo go get one.
shut up
WHY DONT YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUSSINESS YOUR HELLA NOSY LOL JUST LET THEM BE ITS NOT YOUR PROBLEM
ah man, so i read this, and it made a bit of sense, until the statement “wow, I’ve heard of fake id’s for drinking but getting tattoos,” was made.
im fifteen, and honestly i think that if you are honestly ready to make the choice to put a tattoo on yourself, without regrets later on in life, it is okay. but it’s always left to ones opinions and moral standards, and it’s fine if someone should feel that a person should not get a tattoo until the legal age.
BUT, if you compare alcoholism among minorities, to minors recieving tattoos, you’re pretty stupid.
I’d rather my kid come home with a tattoo then coming home to his family smashed, or end up in the street not knowing where they are and what to do.
It’d be really nice if you made a comparison that makes sense.
Me i’m only 15 still but i turn 6teen real soon and my moms cool with it surprisingly she said if i found a place to get it done she’d take me. I’m getting it on my left shoulder a wolf howling at the moon and in it is gonna be R.I.P and the date of my dad’s death coming out of the wolfs mouth and underneath it i’m going to put “forever in my heart.” but honestly i think you should only get tattoos for a real reason not because your friends are but w.e its your body so have fun bitches!!
When people go to France, they normally bring back loaves of fresh bread, cheese, or wine- not a whale. Yet, as I saw my best friend, Chelsea, in baggage claim straight from Paris, I could see a tattooed whale sitting on her right shoulder. Not just any whale either. A bloated, poorly sketched, grinning blob of a whale. And she is only sixteen years old.
Kids make mistakes. Some fail geometry tests, others get whale tattoos.
Kids really shouldn’t be able to get a tattoo because what you want now is not what you are gonna want later in life . And even if you chose to get one and then not want it in the future lazering it off cost alot of money. That could be your College money .
wow lady your tripping over your kids friend getting a tattoo i got one when i was 14 its not a big deal kids write on themselves with markers an sharpies getting a tattoo is just the same thing just it stays there forever. its none of your business what your kids friends do your not there mom. and just because she got one doesnt mean your kidd will to
I don’t what those kids are thinking and they are so into tattoos… I find it so dirty to see body tattoos especially with girls. For me it is not a good idea and as early as now I am discussing it with my kids what I think with tattoo so that at least they have something to think about when someone encourages then to have tattoo.
When I was 15 I wanted a rose tattoo and blue hair. I’m SO thankful i didn’t do it. Who you are at 15 is not who you will be at 20, 30, 50, or 70.
hey calm down okay if your sixteen and had permission from a parent its perfectly fine but if you dont then go ahead and flip out
The tattoo studio is not in the wrong. If she had a fake I.D., then the will have a copy of it on record, but technically, she is the one that just broke a law – not them, and if an investigation were called, she would be the one to get the brunt of the trouble.
Also, think about what you are saying before you type it. Tattooing a minor is not illegal if they have parental permission. While not all teens are mature enough to make a decision about something that will be on their body forever, there are those who are.
